Hausaufgabe - bitte korrigieren ;-)
Halli Hallo ;-))
sooo, genug der Rede, here we are:
1) Ragged Dick is a ragged, homeless boy of the streets. At the age of 3 Dick becomes an orphant, since then he fights his way through life on his own. He is above doing anything mean or dishonorable. He does not steal, or cheat, but is frank and straight-forward, manly and self-reliant, as it seems. However Dick is ignorant because he has no formal education but that is based on his poorness. Because of his task to struggle through life because „he’s got his livin’g to earn“ it is quite difficult for him to get a respectable labour. The use of slang language and the simplicity of he vocabulary Dick has in his language, reflects quite well his poor social background.
2) Mr Whitney is the prototype of those who rise from rags to riches and who now want to share their dream . Mr Whitney is convinced that one can improve fortunes, sets the world on fire and reaches a high level of prosperity and happyess if you just work hard and takes advantage of every opportunity. He‘s the knight in shining armour for Dick, and his directory who tries to manage the poor boy’s life into the right way, namely the stiving for the American Dream.

Hallo Alexia

1) Ragged Dick is a ragged, homeless boy from the streets. At the age of three Dick becomes an orphan and since then he has fought his way through life on his own. He is above doing anything mean or dishonorable. He does not steal, or cheat, but is frank and straight-forward, manly and self-reliant, as it seems-that sounds a bit strange at the end of that sentence, but it isn't incorrect! But if you can find something else to write there?!. However Dick is uneducatedbecause he has no formal education except for that based on his poverty. Because of his task to struggle through life because „he’s got his living to earn“ it is quite difficult for him to get a respectable labour(You need a different word here!).
Bitte schaue dir diesen Satz nochmal an.
The use of slang language and the simplicity of the vocabulary Dick has in his language, reflects quite well
his poor social background quite well.
2) Mr Whitney is the prototype of those who rise from rags to riches and who now want to share his dream. Mr Whitney is convinced that you can improve your opportunities, set the world on fire(Do you really want to say "set the world on fire"?! Kannst das ja wahrscheinlich sagen, aber ich kenne das als Sprichwort nicht!) and reach a high level of prosperity and happiness if you just work hard and take advantage of every chance you get. He‘s the knight in shining armour for Dick, and his directory who tries to manage the poor boy’s life into the right way, namely the strive for the American Dream.
Alles Gute,
