  Irish fairy cult

Hi there großes Grinsen:D .
I've got a question: Does anyone know something about how the Irish fairy / goblin / deity cult developed?
I'm going to do a presentation about Mystic Ireland, my teacher told me that would be a very interesting point but either there is nothing to find about it on google or i'm too stupid (i suppose second alternative is right).
The only thing I found out is that people retold the stories ( but that's normal for legends, I think).

If anybody else know something about why such a fantasy cult of all things has developed in Ireland and how it developed, I would be veeery thanking if this person helps me großes Grinsen:D .

Thank you!

(pls, don't care for my mistakes crazyeyes )

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but well, as I study Celtic languages and cultures at university, I'll try to give you a few hints smile
Ireland hat a very complex and lively pagan culture and religion, before Christianity arrived there in the early Middle Ages. Ireland was one of the first countries in Europe where local myths and legends were written down in books. Later on, when most people had become Christians, they did not understand the old tales very well anymore. They did not believe in the ancient Irish gods and goddesses anymore and found it strange that their ancestors had believed such things. Still they found all of this very interesting and continued writing these things down and copying old books, etc.
There are also a lot of archaeological sites all over Ireland which were related to the pagan religion, and later people invented fairy tales to explain why those places were there.
In the old religion nature had been very important, that's why there are so many spirits of the earth and hills and forest and sea in the Irish fairy tales.

I hope this was not too difficult. If you have any questions, just feel free to ask smile
