What do you think about your hometown? Can you describe it in English?
Tell us about special places, for example.
Or is there something you don't like?
Where do kids go to in your town?
Is it worth visiting your town?
Bye,
Regina

What a great idea Regina
How nice to see you here again
I'll write about my home town tomorrow, because I'm just on my way out.
Take care
Nicky

hmmm...what'S special about my hometown.
Well we have got something called AÖZA, that is a Park.( Well it's our woods) And in it they rebuild a Stoneage Village and try to build everything that was in Stoneage. They are even trying to plant plants that they think grew at that time. It's quite interesting but if you have seen it 200 times, then it becomes boring. But that's the most interesting thing in Albersdorf. The rest is just normal village stuff. We have got a Penny, a Schlecker, an Aldi , an Edeka and a Wandmarker
We have got a great swimming pool in town too. I don't like swimming too much but it's good fun there. It has got a few pools, towers to jump from and a long slide. I go there every summer, because it isn't in a hall like many other swimming pools nearby. So it is only opened in summer.
We have got quite a big forest around our village, that's why it's a "kurort". Many people go out to have a walk in the forest every Sunday, so it's crowded then .And you can go fishing in a few lakes and rivers.
Our village is only small with 3,5 thousand citicens. But it is growing. More and more people come to our little village
Best wishes,
Crusher

I can't tell that from our town. I'll describe Altena, which is the twin-town (Partnerstadt) of Blackburn, where Nicky was born.
Altena is a town in the north west of Germany. It is the town where I was born and where I went to school.
Altena had about 10 schools only a few years ago. But at the moment they are closing some schools, because Altena can’t afford so many schools and the number of pupils is less than some years ago.
The same happens to some churches. Altena hasn’t got enough money to keep all places.
The city of Altena is not very attractive. People try to make it nicer, but so far it doesn’t stop people from shopping in other towns.
Altena has about 20000 inhabitants. There is a lot of industry, which has mostly to do with wire drawing and processing. But because Altena is in a narrow valley, many companies move to bigger towns. That is why there are not so many jobs in Altena. More and more people leave the town.
Altena tries to get more tourists into the town. They can visit the castle and look at the museum. In the museum there is the first youth hostel in the world.
Tourists can come to Altena by train. But the station is not very big. You can’t even buy tickets there. Many years ago the station of Altena was famous because of its design. The walls had the design of a colourful railway.
Tourists with campervans are lucky in Altena. There are several places for them to stay, free.
One of those places is next to the Sauerlandhalle, Altena’s biggest sport centre.
There is not very much else than sports, which children and teenager can do in Altena.
I know about one public youth centre. There are a few youth groups, which are organized by the churches of Altena. Some young people meet at the Markaner, which is the big bus station in town. That is not really a good place to meet. People say it is a big junky place.
So, Altena is not the nicest town I know, but it is the town, where I was born.
Today I live near Altena, and Carry (Carina) and Eldariell (Sarah) go to school in Altena, too. By the way, it's the same school I used to go to, ages ago.

I'm going to write about Blackburn, which is the twin-town of Altena
I come from Blackburn in Lancashire. Blackburn is a very large town, which is important for its large shopping malls (Einkaufzentrum) and its three day market. I love going to the market. There is an indoor one and an outdoor one. An old school friend of mine works on the chicken stall and every time I go home to Blackburn I always go and say, "Hello".
We have a very modern Cathedral, where I used to sing in the choir. I used to love singing there.
Blackburn used to be famous for its cotton industry.
Now it is quite a poor town on the outskirts with a lot of slums (Elendviertel). Even so I would always go back there.
What can you do in Blackburn? Well, I'm not too sure any more, but we used to go swimming a lot or used to go to the "YMCA", where we went roller skating. It used to be good fun. We always used to go to the park and play or into the woods where we used to have picnics and play hide and seek.
When I now go home - something that I haven't done for at least three years now - I can walk around the shopping mall for hours taking in the atmosphere and listening to people talk and communicate with each other. I love the friendly way in which people treat each other in Britain.
The area around Blackburn is well worth visiting. If any of you go and see the film "Calender Girls" then you will see what the countryside is like around Blackburn.
Oh yes! We also have a great big fair ground called "The Pleasure Beach". This is terribly boring for Germans, but I still love going there.
If you look here you'll find an article which I wrote some time ago, about Lancashire:

Have fun,
Nicky

Für alle Schüler/innen die hier etwas schreiben wollen, bitte nenne eure Stadt nicht, denn das ist nicht so wichtig. Erzähle uns nur etwas davon
For all pupils who want to write something about their home town, please don't mention the name of your town. Just write about it.
Liebe Grüße
Nicky

My town is a terrible place to live...The people are very arrogant...Only for tourists it's interesting: you can visit the "Fuggerei" and many old buildings and children can go in the "Puppenkiste" . But older kids can't do something interesting...
We have a few very old, catholic schools. My school was founded in 1700 or so *g* by an english nun

My town is a very big town and it is devided in to parts. The two parts are seperated from a little river, but normaly ther is no much water in the river.
The town is also diveded in a few zones and this zones are very different, there are zones were only the poore (wie schreib man das?) people life and a zones where only rich peolpe live and were the embassys are and the shopping centers. And then there are zones in between of this.
Because I don't live in germany but in Honduras it is very dangeros for me to walk allone in the town, where we live it is allright in the neigbourhood, but my mum often needs to drive me to were I want to go.
The most interessting part of our town is the national parc about 10 km before the town, you can see lots of wilde animals there.
@Nicky: warum sollen wir den Stadtnamen nicht sagen? bei mir weiss eh keiner wo das ist

Hi Lisa-Mia
| Zitat: | | only the poore (wie schreib man das?) |
The answer is: poorer
Nicky

Our nebourgh (oder so ähnlich ich mein nachbardorf) village is bigger there's a swimmingpool (outside) with two pools and one tower to jump it's not big but it's lots of fun !! Then there is a big pool(inside) and a little pool for babys.
We've got some other things but there are not in my mint or I haven't got time. oder auch keine lust

ich finde es sehr schön , dass du etwas über dein Dorf geschrieben hast. Jeden bisschen bringt dich ein stück weiter vorne
Du meintest "neighbouring village" = Nachbardorf

Yeah, but a modern village has a discotheck, too!*g* I know that from my grandma- no, she doesn't go in it And every year a part of the village drive on a mountain-house (berghütte?), which has no electric current...I'll never stay a night at such a house...
