| Referat Millennium Development Goals
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are 8 goals on the international development for the year 2015 that have been agreed to achieve by representatives of international organizations likes the UNO, Worldbank, OECD and many NGOs in 2000. The goals aim at reducing poverty, hunger and illnesses; improving health and power of women and of ecology and finally at developing a global partnership for further progress.
2000 they were more then a billion people living in extrem poverty (every 5th person had less than one dollar per day) half of them doesn't even have access to clean drinkable water, more then 700 million people live in hunger. More then 115 million children lack the opportunity even to go to primary school and therefore can't read and write. All of these people have no opportunities of social, economical and political participation and lack of basic needs for a healthy and good life.
The MDGs which aim to change this situation are:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development
In order to observe and to measure the reaching of the goals, there are several small goals to achieve an indicators to measure. The goals will be only achieved if the so called development countrys and the developed countries both work together.
To achieve the goals, its not only important to spend more money on the poor and on health care and so on but also to create a political background by fighting corruption and supporting democracy and gender equality. By achieving this goals many people would have better conditions/circumstances of life and the world would be at least a bit more just and safer.
China and India are pretty good on achieving the goal, basically because their economies are growing highly and they therefore have a lot of money to spend on development. Sadly especially very poor regions like the Sub-Saharan Africa are very behind in reaching the goals and are very like not to fulfill them until 2015.
Even if these goals seem like a very important and useful tool to improve the development of many countries and to improve the living conditions of many people, theire have been criticized as well for been too demanding and unrealistic and also for wanting to reduce poverty by focusing on financial development and not taking account on other living circumstance such as subsistence farming etc.
