hello! my name is hanna and i am 17 years old... so, of course, i am not in the 6th grade anymore... my teachers also think that i am good in english, so they send a boy to me who is in the 6th grade and who has got some problems with the language... i already gave him a lot of private lessons, and i also used grammer exerices from this site... but i think i have to practise some more texts, and how to write texts, with him.... and, my problem is that i can`t find good text-exercises for him, because he also has to know the vocabulary.... most texts are too difficult, or havee a lot of new vocabulary.... he uses the book "password green 2". can anybody help me? or are there other ideas, what can i do with this boy?
thank you, hanna!

Basically, just let him write something, anything, whatever... for example let him write a short text on the World Championship, or what he is going to do in the summer holidays, etc.
I also use cartoons a lot, I have some small books with funny "stories", which consist of a few pictures without text, and then I let my pupils write a story about that. For the younger pupils it is enough to write just one simple sentence about every picture, the older ones can write more elaborate stories, with funny dialogues etc. so these books are really useful for all kind of pupils and for different languages.
I think that at school pupils have to write a lot about topics they don't really like, so for my tutoring lessons, no matter what language, I try and let them write about topics they like or topics that are funny and interesting. So, for example let them write something about their hobby, their pet, their favourite music, a film they have seen, etc.
It is not important that they write a lot, it is just important that they try and express themselves, and you can see their weak spots in grammar. Most pupils do rather well in special grammar exercises where they know for example to keep an eye on the tenses or on the negations etc., but as soon as they start writing a free text it's all upside down again.
I usually let my pupils read out the texts they have written as well, to encourage their reading and speaking abilities.

By the way, take care about your own grammar as well and your spelling (you should capital letters, even if it is "just on the internet", because if you don't you will soon forget to use them at all
